A peek at the new 1865 Ben Hogan...

I hope Bill's reading this because I definitely would like to see this knife in a lockback.  This would be a great 'camp' knife with the longer blade and plenty of handle to hang onto when peeling spuds or slicing onions.  Here's a look at it sandwiched between an Executive Whittler and a 73 for reference.  The slim profile should make it a pocket friendly knife to carry.

The handle is plenty long to fit in a big hand, but slim enough that it's not overwhelming to someone with smaller hands.....(Jan).

And the price is right at just over $59 for a non serialized version and around $67.75 for a numbered model in the Glitter Gold.

Betcha Jan's gonna snag one with a "Christine" shield.....

Me? I'm waitin' on the Northfields, 'cause I like all the little extras they have, even for a "user". I really like the knife though, and you're right, a lock blade would be the cat's pajamas.

Thanks for the comparison pics Greg. Those are always very helpful. Certainly a good looking and sleek knife.

It is too long for me for pocket carry, but I could see it in a belt sheath, or even as a 'desk knife'. This is a good example of why I like a lanyard hole - I like to use a lanyard to dangle the knife into the pocket so that it remains vertical. This is nice with larger knives that are not very pocketable once they turn sideways in the pocket. I do this often with bigger swiss army knives too. Just my 2 cents. This might be a nice pattern as a lockback with lanyard hole too...

GEC is really doing a great job lately. Many of the patterns and knives in the last 6 months or so are super nice. My ebony dogleg is my personal favorite. They are really on a roll and this 65 continues it.

You're right about the pocket carry.  I dropped one in my pocket when they came in.  It fits and lays along the side nicely, but when it tips over and goes to the bottom of your pocket you'd better be wearing britches that aren't too tight or you may get picked up for obscene behavior in the process of getting it back out.  The lanyard idea would remedy the problem.

My immediate thought for a lockback stems to camping.  In my cook kit, I've got a relatively inexpensive lockback folding fillet type knife that I use for food prep.  I like the folder as it takes up less room and you don't have to look for the sheath when you pack up.  In addition, when I'm working in the 'kitchen', I just really prefer either a fixed blade or a lockback.  The 65 is just a bit shorter but would be a great replacement!  I also like the fact that it's got more backbone than my current camp knife.  It wouldn't be a knife I'd necessarily carry in a pocket on a regular basis, but you could and it would easily drop into a pocket on a pack.

The Hogan is about the same length as a single blade 23 trapper, and a wee bit thinner right? Just trying to get a perspective.
