Sunfish and New Hunters are coming, a Run of 3 Blade Exec Whittlers!!!

Just a quick update on the Sunfish and a new  series of Hunters.  First the Sunfish...

Details are starting to trickle out and here's what I know as of 8/20/10.  First, we're probably looking at mid to late September as there are a number of other knives coming through and some private orders to complete.    The comment that was stressed was that this Sunfish will be a 'real old school' knife.  My impression is that it could be reminiscent of the days when some knives were built to be tools.  Sturdy and rather low key.  Just a guess based on the following:

  • Pen and Spear Blades
  • No Etch on the blades
  • Plain Shields
  • Same basic body as the earlier Sunfish
  • Handle materials are Jigged Bone, Coco Bolo in Tidioute: Burnt Stag and Snakewood in the Northfields
  • First 25 serialized with a total of 86 pieces of each handle material

Then, we'll see 3 new Hunters with smooth handles, unnumbered with leather sheaths.  My understanding is these will be approximately 7.5" OAL and really short runs.

  • #731  Bird Clip Blade with Bone, Wood and Stag Handles ( total of 29)
  • #732  Drop Point Blade with Bone & Stag Handles (total of 13)
  • #733  Saber Grind Skinner Blade, Bone & Stag Handles (total of 14)

And probably one of the biggest surprises to me is a rerun of the three blade 89 Exec Whittlers.   These will have the Wharncliffe, Coping and Pen blades with Jigged Bone, Ivory Acrylic and an Ebony Wood handles.  My understanding is that these are a pain to manufacture due to the close tolerances getting everything to fit into that slim frame with the split springs.  Personally, I'm happy to see them come through with another run as I've been carrying one for quite some time (with the spear blade) and am really fond of it.
