It's standard packaging and blade markings. My understanding is that mark will only be used on 'initial' intro models. Once the initial runs is completed, they'll revert to the standard packaging/markings.

I'm anxious to hear your honest opinion. The Blood Red's were really a pleasant surprise. I guess I was just personally impressed with the richness of the color. It seems like some of the dyed bone can be kinda hohum, but this one is particularly nice...in my opinion!

Wednesday, I received a pair of #12 Northfield Toothpicks; one Burnt Stag and one in Blood Red Bone. While the Burnt Stag is "the" classic look, the Blood Red is a real stunner! Everyone I've shown it to has remarked about the amazing color. ( Greg, tell GEC we want more of this color, and I want a Northfield twin blade #23EC with it. )
The toothpick is a classic pattern and pleases the eye with its flowing curves. The lined bolsters and swedge grinds add an extra touch of class. My Blood Red measures 102mm long with a 76mm blade. The proportions of the handle thickness and size feel very nice in the hand. The knife is a pleasant size and should carry nicely in the pocket, although mine rides in a nice leather slip pouch from Backroom Leather.
Unfortunately, neither knife could be considered sharp; a genuine disappointment. The rest of the fit and finish is very nicely done. I would like to recommend that GEC make the serial numbers much deeper, as they are barely visible now.
I think the #12 pattern is a home run by GEC, and I'm looking forward to more interesting patterns from them. Reply to this

I'm with you on the Blood Red. That's absolutely the best Red I've seen them put out to date! I think it's gonna prove to be one of those 'benchmark' dye jobs that all other Red's will be compared to.
Likewise regarding the sharpness. I've just come to accept the fact that the GEC's aren't gonna meet my standards for a sharp knife. Fortunately, they take an edge without a great deal of effort.
Muskrat.... what you think of the Toothpicks? Reply to this

To be honest, the blade not being sharp is not really a must but it does give the new owner a chance to hone the edge with a flat angle for heavy use or lay it down(long draw angle) to make a fine razor edge. I do agree that 'out of the box' GEC knives lack an edge, even for collecting enthusiast that only wipe with light oil and put in display case gently, no scratches or wet stone!!
Maybe I will get a Blood Red panel on a different model in future as it sounds like excellent dye coloring. Reply to this

I plan on picking up a blood red soon. I really liked the Barlow run of brimstone bone. If the red is anywhere near as nice in saturation, this one will be a knockout! Reply to this
Do these have that new "PPP" mark and a different package label like we saw with the Tidioute models?

Good question. They do not.
