New Blade Etches on New Patterns
I covered this in another entry regarding the new #12 Toothpicks but will touch on it again here. GEC has started to use a new blade etch on new pattern releases. There is a "PPP" etch on the main blade as well as a PPP stamp on the label of new production knives. The PPP stands for Pattern Production Premier. This will be used on the very first knives within a run/

The label on the new pattern knives will also have a completely different look from the later run of knives. It also has the PPP stamped on the upper left hand corner of the label.

This makes for a great way to differentiate early release knives within a pattern from later production. With the date and model stamp on the tangs, this is a great idea that should make earlier releases much easier to identify.

That is a very innovative way to push the perceived value and the collectability of a knife. I like the knives - however I have found some that are quite dull - they need some work on a hard Arkansas oil stone and a steel before they cut properly. Anyone else find this to be true?? I do not blog a lot, so if I cross some rules or bad manners - it was not intentional - thanks

Tend to agree with you. I'm not sure if they're really dull or if it's just that the finished angle doesn't quite work for me. It's pretty unusual that I don't take most new knives and finish the blades to my own preference. I know that every Great Eastern I've used got a going over on a stone and finished on a strop. Other folks have said they're really pleased with them right out of the tube. I've cut my fingers taking a few photos so I know they're not all that dull.
