The FireSteel 'Reality' Challenge!!

Gio, I appreciate someone that's not willing to accept things as fact just because someone 'says so'.  I'm anxious to see what you think, the TSA Store is open and I'm taking orders for the FireSteels...... ...<< MORE >>

New "error" knife coming through

I found out today that there's going to be an oddball Barlow Jack coming through.  It's a Northfield 251208 Barlow Jack,  with Clip/Pen blades AND a Tidioute hourglass shield.  These will be made up with a couple of different handle materials, red and amber jigged bone being two.  There'll be a total of 32 and could be another interesting 'oddity' to pick up.  I'm not sure if they'll be called a Northoute or maybe.........a Tidifield?????  Just idle speculation.

Swedish FireSteel Video ~ New feature

I'm going try adding an occassional video to the blog.  You might notice I'm not a professional videographer but rather, a 'work in progress'.  The main thing is that it might be a better way to convey somme realtime information.

Hope it's not too bad!!!  enjoy....

New Picture Gallery on TSA Knives Website

If you check the www.tsaknives.com website, you'll notice most of the pictures has disappeared.  I've added a dedicated page http://www.tsaknives.com/Great%20Eastern%20Photo%20Gallery.htm   that will host the photos of new knives as they come out.

The gallery isn't complete by any means as I just started keeping and posting the pictures early in 2008.  As time allows, I'd like to go back and start adding the 'release' dates to the pictures and I'll be leaving the photos in the larger format to show details a little more clearly.

Anyway, hope it helps if you're looking for a photo of an early knife.

The New 3 Back Spring Whittler details

I'm picking up a little more information about the new "3 BSW".  First, I'm still working on getting a picture to give everyone a little better idea what's coming, but.... we'll just have to wait I guess!!!  What I have found out is that the 3BSW will be about the  same thickness as a 3 blade stockman with a split back spring.  The reason it won't be thicker is the fact that with three backsprings, they eliminate the spacers found in the 3 blade models with a split back spring.  Now, what I'm interested to see is if the second ...<< MORE >>

Blade thickness changes!!!

I've had a couple people ask about the thinner pen blades on the latest Barlows.  Collectors, pay attention!!!

The first few Barlow's were released with secondary blades the same thickness as the primary blade.  The latest releases have had thinner pen blades and springs then the primary blade.  From here on out, all of the Barlow's will have the thinner secondary blade and spring.

I made a quick run through my "INVENTORY" and will be highlighting all of the Barlow's in Green that have the 'old style' thicker secondary blade if anyone's interested.  So, if you're a collector of manufacturing variations, this ...<< MORE >>

Slight Modification in the 25 Jack's?

Moonwilson and Eric picked up on a subtle change in the Northfield #25 Barlow and the Tidioute Barlow Jacks.  If you read their comments they mentioned the slightly thinner Pen Blade on the Tidioute Barlow Jack and the thinner spring.  This ends up making a little more compact package!  Thanks for catching that guys.

The top knife is the Northfield Barlow with a Spear/Clip blade combo and the bottom knife is the new Tidioute Barlow Jack with a Sheepsfoot/Pen Blade combination.

New Patriots are in with Sheepsfoot Blades!

I just got in a shipment of the 25 Barlow Jacks with the Sheepsfoot Blades...and are they nice!!!  The Sheepsfoot has always been a favorite blade of mine.  It's great for everything from opening boxes to whittling.  Just an all around blade.  Combined with the pen blade, it makes for a really nice combination.

First is the 25 Jack with Patriot Acrylic handles.  This is unique for a couple of reasons and should prove to be a 'key' in any 25 Barlow collection as it's a combination of new and old in a relatively short run.

Fallkniven Tre Kronor

I got a call from an individual who had read the recent Blade Magazine article featuring Great Eastern Cutlery.  During our conversation, he found out I was a fan and a seller of the Fallkniven line.  He asked if I was familiar with the Tre Kronor from Fallkniven that was advertised on page 31 of the article.  The short version is that he bought a GEC and had me order a Tre Krono TK1 for him.

I'm sitting here looking at it with a burning desire to take it out and cut something.  What a gorgeous knife.  The presentation box it ...<< MORE >>

Did you read the January 2009 issue of Blade Mag???

Not sure how many of you get Blade Magazine, but...if you get a chance, pick one up and read the article starting on page 28 in the January 2009 issue.  It's a terrific article about Great Eastern Cutlery with some really nice pix.

So.... how does this affect any of you?  Let me give you a tip.  The magazine was distributed on the East Coast the first of the week and I hadn't gotten a copy yet.  On Tuesday, I started getting requests for Great Easterns that were pictured in 'the article' in Blade mag.  I didn't have a clue what they were ...<< MORE >>

Another Limited Run Barlow Coming!!!

GEC is making a run of just 29 Tidioute #25 Jacks with a SHEEPSFOOT and a Pen Blade, both regular pulls.  Originally, these were going to be unnumbered, but I purchased all but a handful of them and requested that they number them.  The last I knew, they will be serial numbered with a COA stating the total run quantity.    They'll feature the Acrylic Patriot Handles which will be the last standard production run knives made with the Patriot material.  On top of that, they'll feature the old style Shield rather then the new Hourglass (or corset) shield.

This is going to be a ...<< MORE >>

Ltd Run Bronco Charlie #23 Northfields arrived!!

As I mentioned in an earlier entry, GEC made a special run of just 22 knives in Red Wine Bone continuing the Bronco Charlie Commemorative Series.  In 2007 they made 76 knives in Horsecut Walnut and 96 in Buffalo Horn as part of a run of 250 knives.  This run of Red Wine Bone is by far the lowest production variation yet in this series.  Great looking knife with the 'old' Northfield blade etch, swedged blade and 235108 tang stamp.
